Weekend Availability Q & A

Why is prenatal care important?

Regular prenatal care helps keep you and your baby healthy. East Bay Women’s Health offers prenatal care to help prevent pregnancy complications, in addition to educating you on how you can best protect your infant.

As the only OB/GYN office in the area to offer Saturday appointments, East Bay Women’s Health recognizes the importance of prenatal care for those patients who aren’t able to get away during the work week.

What does a prenatal visit entail?

Prenatal visits at East Bay Women’s Health usually include a physical exam, checking your weight, and asking for a urine sample. Your visit may also consist of a blood test or an ultrasound exam, depending on the current stage of your pregnancy. The specialists at East Bay Women’s Health may also discuss the health of your fetus, as well as your own, answering any questions you might have about your pregnancy.

How often should you schedule a prenatal care visit?

The frequency of your visits depends on your age, in addition to your health. If you’re between 18 and 35 years old and considered healthy, you can expect the following prenatal care schedule:

  • The first 28 weeks: every four weeks, from the first to the seventh month of pregnancy
  • Weeks 28-36: every two weeks during the eighth month
  • Week 36 until delivery: every week during the ninth month

If your pregnancy is considered high risk, your specialist at East Bay Women’s Health may request that you schedule prenatal visits more often.

These exams are routine procedures and should not be skipped -- another reason why East Bay Women’s Health welcomes patients over the weekend.
